On Saturday, May 9, New Leaf Community Market invites the public to a ribbon cutting and celebration to mark the opening of the New Leaf Community Classroom at 150 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon Bay. At 10 am, Half Moon Bay Mayor Marina Fraser, Chamber CEO Charise McHugh and Chamber Board Chair Peggy Milne will help store manager Steven Connelly and marketing coordinator Dominique Del Chiaro cut the ribbon. Festivities inside the classroom will continue until 2 pm.
?We are thrilled to be able to offer a space where the community can come together for wellness, fitness, cooking and nutrition classes, and artistic expression,? said New Leaf?s Del Chiaro who has brought the classroom project to fruition. ?This is the first and only community classroom of its type in Half Moon Bay; we invite people to be part of local history in the making!? she added.
The classroom is located just steps from the front door of New Leaf, between the store and Taco Bell. The versatile 1,000 square-foot-space will accommodate 50 seated people or 30 people at 6-foot tables, as well as provide an area for cooking classes. Classes will be offered on a wide range of topics, including restorative yoga classes, cooking classes for kids and adults, and wellness lectures that help community members achieve a healthy and fulfilling life. The schedule of classes and registration is available here.
Celebration attendees will be able to tour the classroom and meet some of the classroom instructors that serve the Coastside community, including Mark Takata, Dr. Lisa Chu, Dr. Siddhartha Jandial, Dr. Barry Rowland, Dr. Ginger Mills, Amy Fothergill, as well as local yoga instructors. There will be live acoustic music by local artists Chinese Melodrama and L And K, a raffle of $200 worth of classes, give-aways of products sold by New Leaf, and complimentary wine tasting. A BBQ lunch plate with grass-fed hamburger and New Leaf potato salad will be available for $5. KHMB radio will broadcast live from the event
